Before presenting the scholarship awards, Sheriff High greeted the parents and friends of each of the recipients, acknowledging the importance of the people who push and encourage young people to do their best.
“The three of you were selected from among a number of worthy applicants, but you were chosen for your academic achievement, community service and extracurricular participation. We know you have big dreams and that you will do well in all your endeavors. My dream is to see you fulfill yours, “said Sheriff High. Lt. Colonel Regina Taylor, Bureau Chief of Field Operations, whose staff coordinated the scholarship application process this year read comments about each student from recommendation letters that accompanied their applications. “When I think of all of the incredible applications we got, I’m not worried about the future,” she said. “These recipients are not just exceptional students; they are leaders and role models.
We are very proud to recognize their outstanding achievement.”
The agency received and reviewed over 60 exceptional application packages from students of various Prince George’s County high schools. The three scholarship winners were:
Nina Manio, a Parkdale High School graduate who will attend Prince Georges Community College; Kamaara Lucas, an Oxon Hill High School graduate who will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and Jasmine Green, a Largo High School graduate who will attend Towson University in the fall. Each recipient was awarded $1,000.00.
